Men charged in connection to attempted robbery of armored truck, and multiple fatal shootings

Authorities said that shortly after the attempted robbery of the armored truck on Monday that left 47-year-old security guard Lashonda Hearts dead and her partner in critical condition, the two men robbed a cell phone store, and killed their accomplices.

Boy, 16, arrested in fatal shooting of Melanie Yates

The boy and two other juveniles were arrested shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday after a shooting in nearby Waukegan, police said. No injuries were reported in that shooting.

CTA Employee stabbed, CPD officer injured, during altercation on Blue Line at Jackson

The CTA employee stepped off the the train to intervene in some sort of "ongoing altercation" and the CTA employee was stabbed by a 39-year-old male multiple times with a knife. A responding officer was also hit with a blunt object.

Suspect charged in death of University of Chicago student

On the day after the shooting, Spann was spotted on the city's North Side, carrying two guns and a key FOB from the Ford Mustang on video. The firearms were tested by the CPD lab and one was confirmed to be the gun used to kill Mr. Zheng.
