O'Reilly was reportedly arrested a day after the incident, after he was the driver of a vehicle involved in a traffic crash in the 3900 block of S. Prairie Avenue in the Bronzeville neighborhood. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Police charged Sylvester Adams, 53, of the 20100 block of Oak Lane in Lynwood, with attempted murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He was arrested moments after the shooting early Saturday morning, police said.

Officers went to the home due to a report of a woman possibly being held against her will. Police knocked on the door and reportedly saw a male come to the window then quickly close the curtains. After some words were exchanged, the Officers heard five gunshots.
