Second 6-year-old shot this week

CHICAGO - Authorities said another 6-year-old was struck by gunfire last night. This is the second 6-year-old and the 12th kid aged 16-and-under shot this week.

This incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday night in the 7200 block of S. Racine Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood on the city's south side.

Police said a 6-year-old girl was out near the street when she was struck to the arm by gunfire. It is unclear which direction the shot came from but the little girl was taken to St. Bernard Hospital where she was reported to be in good condition.

There are no offenders in custody, and area detectives are investigating.

As mentioned at the top, this is the second 6-year-old to have been shot this week.

In the other incident, a 6-year-old boy was in critical condition after the child was shot while just, you know, being inside an apartment in the Woodlawn neighborhood.

Also as mentioned at the top, this 6-year-old girl's injury on Saturday night makes her the 12th shooting victim 16 and under since Sunday afternoon.
