The 79th Street Red Line has seen a number of violent incidents already this year.

CHICAGO - After a homicide on a CTA Red Line train early Saturday morning prompted calls for additional police presence on the CTA trains and buses, another teenager was shot and critically wounded this afternoon in front of the 79th Street CTA Red Line Station.

Today's incident happened around 4:26 p.m. this afternoon in front of the 79th Street CTA Red Line station.

Police said two males, one unknown and the other a 17-year-old male, saw each other and both drew pistols and fired shots towards each other. The teen was shot in the upper body and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition.

The other male fled the scene.

Area Two Detectives are investigating.

You'll recall this weekend, a 29-year-old man was shot and killed on the CTA Red Line on a train at the same CTA Red Line station.
