CHICAGO - Another man was shot and killed on a CTA Red Line train this morning, authorities said.

There is currently not much information to go on as the incident happened a little after 2:00 a.m. this morning near the 79th Street CTA Red Line Station in the Chatham neighborhood on the city's south side.

Witness reportedly told police that a 29-year-old man was on a CTA train car when a currently unknown male fired shots at him. The victim was taken to University of Chicago with gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen and he was pronounced dead a short time later.

There is no one in custody and Area Two detectives are investigating.

While we have not done a deep dive into the statistics, various crimes such as aggravated battery, criminal sexual assault, and robbery are believed to be at 8 year highs on the CTA so far this year. In recent weeks, multiple shootings has halted service on local trains and buses.
