6 shot in Jackson Park, Tuesday's second mass shooting

Tuesday's second mass shooting saw 6 people shot in Jackson Park. Four women and two men were taken to local hospitals in varying conditions. A total of 26 people were shot yesterday, 2 fatally.

6 shot in Jackson Park, Tuesday's second mass shooting
Installed in 1918, the Statue of the Republic commemorates the twenty-fifth anniversary of the World’s Columbian Exposition in Jackson Park and the centennial of statehood for Illinois.

CHICAGO - The second mass shooting of Tuesday, May 10, 2022 saw an additional 6 people shot in a single incident. Included in the group shot in this second incident in Jackson Park were 4 women and 2 men.

The previous mass shooting incident of the day saw 5 young men shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

A total of 26 people were shot yesterday, 2 fatally.



The second incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. in the 6400 block of S. Richards in Jackson Park on the city's south side, reportedly near the replica of The Statue of the Republic - which is one of the most iconic statues from the World's Fair Columbian Exposition of 1893. The one currently standing in Jackson Park is a smaller replica and Jackson Park is the future site of the Obama Presidential Center.

Police and witnesses stated that two unidentified male offenders drove by a group of people and began shooting from an SUV.

The first victim is a 29-year-old female who was shot in her abdomen. She was transported to Jackson Park Hospital in serious condition.

Victim #2 is a 22-year-old woman who was shot in her left knee. She was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.

The third victim is a 37-year-old woman who suffered two gunshots to her chest. She was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition.

Victim #4 is a 30-year-old woman who was shot in the leg. She was transported to University of Chicago hospital in good condition.

The fifth victim is a 21-year-old man who sustained a graze wound to the head. He was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.

Victim #6 is a 29-year-old male who was shot in the leg. He was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.

Police said the offenders fled the scene in the SUV.

There is no one in custody and Area One detectives are investigating.
