Editor's Note: We corrected our original headline and report as a reader correctly pointed out that three of the victims were legal adults and should be referenced as such. The changes have been made below.

CHICAGO - Gunfire erupted in the Back of the Yards neighborhood this afternoon, the first truly hot day of the year where temperatures nearly reached 90 degrees.

Police reported 5 people were shot by another group in a single violent shooting incident on the city's southwest side.

Among the victims, two were teenagers. One of the victims has died, two more are in critical condition.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of S. Ada in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the city's southwest side.

Police said that a large group of people were standing outside in the hot weather when a stolen, red Mazda drove up. Several people in the red Mazda got out of the car and began firing in the direction of the large group.

Initial reports said there were at least four individuals who got out of the red Mazda but we have yet to confirm that information. According to police, 5 people among that larger group were shot.

The first victim was a 19-year-old male who was shot multiple times to the left side of the body and head. He was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai hospital.

Victim #2 is a 16-year-old male who was shot multiple times - in the left shoulder, arm, face, and ankle. The 16-year-old was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.

The third victim is an 18-year-old male who was shot in the right hip and left knee. He was also transported to Mt. Sinai in critical condition.

Victim #4 is an 18-year-old male who was shot in the right leg. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was reported to be in good condition.

The last victim, also a 16-year-old male, received a graze wound to the right ankle but refused medical attention.

Police said the offenders from the red Mazda fled the scene but later crashed the car, and then fled the scene of the car crash.

Police were able to recover three weapons left in the crashed Mazda, including two long guns and a pistol, but there are no offenders in custody.

Area One Detectives are investigating.
