Young woman found dead Thursday in Belmont Cragin, police investigating as homicide

CHICAGO - A young woman was reportedly found dead in Belmont Cragin on Thursday and police say they're investigating the incident as a homicide.

This incident originally came to our attention when the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office listed an additional homicide this week of a 22-year-old woman shot and killed.

After further inquiry, Police told us that at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, on the 2600 block of N. Laramie Avenue in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the city's northwest side, a 26-year-old female was found inside of a residence with a gunshot wound to her head.

A spokesman could not give us further information on what led authorities to the residence, nor if there was a weapon recovered, but police said the victim was pronounced dead on scene.

We have not heard back from the Medical Examiner's Office with clarification on the age discrepancy nor if the victim has been identified.

Police did confirm that Area 5 Detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide, per the Medical Examiner's report.

No one is in custody.
