A woman was found unresponsive on a sidewalk this morning with multiple gunshots to the body near Mahalia Jackson Park on the city's south side, authorities said.

AUBURN GRESHAM, Chicago - A woman was found unresponsive on a sidewalk this morning with multiple gunshots to the body near Mahalia Jackson Park on the city's south side, authorities said.

According to police, just before 11:00 a.m., a 39-year-old woman was found unresponsive on a sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to her body on the 8400 block of S. Vincennes Avenue in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the city's south side. The location where the woman was found is near the Mahalia Jackson Park in the same neighborhood.

The woman was taken to Christ Hospital but she was pronounced dead.

There is no one in custody. Area Two Detectives are investigating.

According to statistics kept by HeyJackass.com, the Auburn Gresham neighborhood ranks currently as the fifth most violent neighborhood in the city. Through October 11, 2022, the neighborhood has recorded 31 homicides, with an additional 104 people wounded.
