Two young women followed in a vehicle and shot on the city's south side

CHICAGO - Police are reporting an unusual crime story tonight in which two young women were followed by a vehicle and shot in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the city's south side.

The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the 8900 block of S. Halsted Street in the Auburn Gresham area.

Two young women were traveling in their vehicle when another unknown vehicle began following them. Apparently, the unknown vehicle that was following the women crashed into some sort of fixed object but was so determined that an unknown occupant exited the crashed vehicle and began firing shots at the young women, striking both of them.

The first victim is a 21-year-old female who sustained a gunshot wound to the left hand. She was transported to Christ hospital in good condition.

The second victim is an 18-year-old female who sustained a gunshot wound to her lower left leg. She, too, was transported to Christ hospital in good condition.

There is no one in custody and Area Two detectives are investigating.

We've reached out to police to try and better understand what that fixed object was, and if the vehicle was stolen and abandoned after hitting the fixed object or if the unknown offender escaped in that vehicle.

We'll continue to update as we know more.
