CHICAGO - A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition Friday after both were stabbed in the Austin neighborhood on the city's west side this morning, authorities said.

The first incident happened around 3:23 a.m. this morning in an apartment on the 5200 block of W. Crystal Street in the Austin neighborhood on the city's west side.

Police said a 40-year-old man was in a second floor apartment on the above block when someone he knew began stabbing him for reasons that are still unclear.

The Chicago Fire Department rushed the man to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was listed in critical condition with multiple stab wounds to the body.

Not 5 minutes later, about a block away on the 5300 block of W. Crystal Street, police said an unidentified woman was found on the sidewalk with multiple stab wounds to her neck.

The Chicago Fire Department also rushed that unidentified woman to Mt. Sinai but she was pronounced dead.

There is no one in custody and Area Five detectives are investigating. Police have not yet identified the suspect nor a description of who they're looking for.
