Witnesses reported hearing automatic gunfire and there were at least 20 reported shell casings found on scene.

Two shot in Fuller Park, woman dead

CHICAGO - A male and female were shot yesterday afternoon while sitting in their car on the city's south side.



The incident happened around 3:57 p.m. in the 4800 block of S. Wells in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the city's south side. This section of S. Wells Street and where the vehicle was parked when the incident occurred runs directly alongside the Dan Ryan (I90-94).

Police said a 24-year-old male and 23-year-old female were sitting in a dark-colored SUV parked on the side of the street when another currently unknown vehicle pulled up alongside. Someone inside the offending vehicle produced a firearm and fired shots at both victims.

Witnesses reported hearing automatic gunfire and there were at least 20 reported shell casings found on scene.

The 23-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to the torso. She was transported by emergency services to the University of Chicago Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The 24-year-old male victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.

Area One Detectives are investigating.
