Two killed in wrong-way crash on Lake Shore Drive overnight

CHICAGO - Two drivers are dead after a wrong-way crash on Lake Shore Drive early Sunday morning in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. early Sunday morning on the 2000 block of N. Lake Shore Drive early Sunday morning. That section of Lake Shore Drive travels through Lincoln Park.

Police said the male driver of a silver sedan entered the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive going southbound and the vehicle struck a white sedan head on.

The driver of the white sedan was also a male of unknown age. The victim suffered blunt force trauma to his body and the Chicago Fire Department took him to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the silver sedan also suffered blunt force trauma and his vehicle was engulfed in flames. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The final assessment of the incident is being investigated by Major Accidents.
