Two 16-year-olds shot in robbery in Gage Park

CHICAGO - Authorities are reporting two 16-year-olds are recovering tonight after they were shot in an attempted robbery this afternoon.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of S. Christiana in the Gage Park neighborhood this afternoon.

Police said two 16-year-old male victims were walking down the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle approached. Two unknown offenders exited the vehicle, produced firearms, and demanded both victims’ property.

The first victim refused to turn over his stuff, at which point the offender pistol whipped the victim in the head. The teen still didn't give up his stuff so the offender then shot him, striking the victim in the lower back.

The second victim then gave up his property and began to run away, but that wasn't good enough for the offenders. They fired shots at the second victim as he ran away, and he was also struck in the lower back.

Both victims were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.

There is no one in custody. Area One Detectives are investigating.
