CHICAGO - A 26-year-old New Lenox man is facing murder charges in connection to a fatal shooting of a 14-year-old female that occurred on June 2, 2021 in the 1700 block of W 48th Street.

Michael Aguirre, 26, of the 200 block of S Oak Street in New Lenox, IL, was arrested Monday by the Chicago Police Department and the Great Lakes Regional Task Force in the 700 block of S Kostner, Chicago Police said.

The shooting in question is believed to be the shooting that killed 14-year-old Savanah Quintaro in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood.[1]

Savanah Quintaro was walking her dog with her boyfriend just after leaving a convenience store at the corner of 48th and Wood Streets when a group of three perpetrators asked her what her gang affiliation was. Savanah responded that she was not in a gang but that her mother was just before a suspect opened fire and fled the scene.

She was struck in the head and transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she passed away three days later.

Michael Aguirre is facing first-degree murder charges in that shooting.

Aguirre was also charged with Attempted first-degree murder in connection to a separate incident that occurred on August 19, 2021, in which a 21-year-old male was shot and injured in the 10200 block of S State St.

No additional information is available at this time.
