Area One detectives are reporting that they do have a person of interest in custody at this time.

Person of interest in custody in relation to fatal stabbing of 32-year-old woman yesterday on Near South Side
Police said a 32-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the Near South Side neighborhood yesterday.

CHICAGO - Authorities are reporting they have a person of interest in custody and being questioned in relation to the fatal stabbing of a woman on the Near South Side yesterday afternoon.



Police said that yesterday, January 31, 2022, at approximately 2:11 p.m., a 32-year-old black woman was discovered in the 1900 block of S. State Street with a stab wound to the chest. The location is in a fast growing area in the Near South Side neighborhood.

The victim was transported to Northwestern Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide and Area One detectives confirmed they are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Police reportedly have a person of interest in custody tonight but Area One detectives said the investigation remains ongoing.
