"Person of Interest" being questioned in child abuse death of 4-year-old Cashawnna Love

CHICAGO - A "person of interest" is being questioned by detectives in relation to the child abuse death of 4-year-old Cashawnna Love, a spokesperson said Sunday afternoon.[1]

The Chicago Journal was first to report Saturday the story of the child abuse death of 4-year-old Cashawnna Love from the Chatham neighborhood on the city's south side.[1:1] Police had been called to Comer Children's Hospital late Friday night after the 4-year-old Cashawnna arrived in critical condition and with trauma all over her body. She died later that night.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed her death was a homicide due to child abuse.

Sunday afternoon, a police spokesperson confirmed that detectives have been questioning a "person of interest" in the case all afternoon. A search warrant had been served at the girl's residence yesterday.

The police spokesperson was unable to provide us with any additional information, including whether the person was a man or woman, their relationship to Cashawnna, nor what time the person was taken into police custody.

We'll continue to follow this case and update as we know more.
