Chicago Police Officer Pierre Tyler, 29, has been formally charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his 29-year-old girlfriend, Andris Wofford, with whom he had a 9-month old child together.

Update 2: A Chicago Police officer has been charged with first-degree murder after a woman was found fatally shot inside her condo in Galewood on the northwest side. The officer was off-duty at the time the incident occurred.

Pierre Tyler, 29, of West Town, was charged with felony count of first-degree murder, according to Chicago police.

Police have not indicated what they believe to have led to the shooting.

Tyler is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.

Update 1: Family members identified the 29-year-old woman as Andris Wofford, a mother of 2 children pursuing a master's degree.

The family told WGN News they were babysitting her daughters Wednesday and went to the home when she did not come and pick the girls up. They called police after she did not come to the door but her car was in the parking lot.[1]

A sister told FOX32Chicago that the arrested police officer and Ms. Wofford had been dating for 2-3 years, and he is the father of her youngest daughter, who is 9 months old.[2]

While the officer has been relieved of his police powers, he has still not been charged and detectives continue to investigate.
