Man shot and killed at Hotel Lincoln rooftop bar in Old Town

A 35-year-old man is dead after he was shot in the Hotel Lincoln's popular rooftop bar and event space in the early Sunday morning hours. The spot is often rated among the city's best rooftop venues overlooking Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan.

A man was shot and killed early this morning at the popular rooftop bar at the Hotel Lincoln in the Old Town neighborhood.

OLD TOWN, Chicago - A 35-year-old man is dead this morning after he was shot in the Hotel Lincoln's popular rooftop bar and event space in the early Sunday morning hours.

The rooftop bar and event space, called The J. Parker, is often rated among the city's best rooftop venues as it overlooks Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan.

The incident happened around 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning inside The J. Parker, the rooftop event space and bar atop the Hotel Lincoln on the 1800 block of N. Clark Street in the Old Town neighborhood on the city's near north side.

Police said two men got into a fight at the above location that escalated and one of the men pulled out a pistol and shot the other. The Chicago Fire Dapartment took the 35-year-old victim to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was initially listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The man died a short time later from his injury.

The offender fled the scene. According to SPOTNEWSonIG and local scanner traffic, the offender is a black male, approximately 5'10", who was wearing a white/tan hoodie with cutoff sleeves and a dark logo on the front, dark blue jeans, a red belt and white and red sneakers, and a large gold chain at the time of the shooting. The gold chain was left at the scene and will be processed by evidence technicians.

There were no other injuries reported and there is no one in custody. Area detectives are investigating.
