Man shot and killed at party in Logan Square

CHICAGO - A man was shot and killed during a fight at a party in the Logan Square neighborhood early this morning, authorities said.

The incident happened just after 1:00 a.m. this morning in the 3700 block of W. Fullerton Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood on the city's northwest side.

Police said a big group fight broke out at a party being held at a banquet hall on the above block when someone pulled out a handgun and shot a 34-year-old male victim in the head. The Chicago Fire Department took the victim to Illinois Masonic where he was initially listed in critical condition but died from his injury a short time later.

There was only 1 shot fired, and 1 casing found. Witnesses told police the shooter is a clean shaven hispanic male, about 5'5"-5'6" tall, who fled the scene on foot down Fullerton.

During initial questioning, investigators believed the shooter is a family member of at least some of the people in attendance at the party but it's currently unclear the relationship to the victim.

No one is in custody, Area Five detectives are investigating.
