CHICAGO - A Garfield Park man who was shot by police on the Near West Side Friday afternoon and was the second man shot by police last week, has been charged with four felonies by Chicago Police.[1]

The incident happened shortly after 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon in the 2100 block of W. Adams Street on the Near West Side, a little less than two blocks west of the United Center. Officers stopped a vehicle and observed someone inside with a handgun, at which time one officer fired their gun, striking the person, police said in a statement.

Raymond Comer, 37, of the 10-100 block N. Hamlin Boulevard in the city's Garfield Park neighborhood on the city's west side, was charged Sunday morning by Chicago Police with four felonies related to this case.

Comer's charges are as follows:

  • One (1) felony count – Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer/Fire Official/Emergency Worker
  • One (1) felony count – Possession of a Consumal Substance Except (A)(D)
  • One (1) felony count – Armed Habitual Criminal
  • One (1) felony count – Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Possessing/Using a Firearm

This shooting was the second officer involved shooting in as many days after a 40-year-old man was shot Thursday night during a struggle with police in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the city's south side.[2]
