Four men were shot and two of the victims are in critical condition this morning after unknown offenders opened fire in Back of the Yards late last night, authorities said.

Four shot in Back of the Yards, two critical

CHICAGO - Four men were shot and two of the victims are in critical condition this morning after unknown offenders opened fire in Back of the Yards late last night, authorities said.

The incident happened just before midnight in the 5400 block of S. Paulina in the Back of the Yards/New City area on the city's southwest side.

Police said a group was gathered on the above mentioned block when unknown offenders fired approximately 25-30 gunshots and a total of four male victims were struck.

  • Victim #1: 27-year-old shot in the stomach. Critical condition.
  • Victim #2: 42-year-old shot in the right arm. Critical condition.
  • Victim #3: 31-year-old shot in the groin. Good condition.
  • Victim #4: 32-year-old shot three times in the arm, elbow, and leg. Good condition.

As police arrived, tensions were high and several cars from surrounding districts were needed for crowd control, but no additional injuries were reported beyond the shooting victims.

All four men were taken to University of Chicago Hospital.

No one is in custody, Area One detectives continue to investigate.
