Four men shot in Douglas mid-afternoon Thursday

CHICAGO - Four men were shot Thursday afternoon in the Douglas neighborhood, one block east of the City of Chicago Public Safety Headquarters.

The incident happened around 3:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon on the 200 block of E. 35th Street in the Douglas neighborhood on the city's south side. The location was at an intersection one block east of the City of Chicago Public Safety Headquarters, which the Chicago Police Department touts as "the most technologically advanced police facility in the country."

Police said four men were hanging out on the above block when an unknown person approached with a pistol and fired shots.

The victims and their conditions are listed as follows:

  • 44-year-old male shot in the arm. Taken to the University of Chicago Hospital initially in good condition.
  • 65-year-old male shot in an arm and a leg. Taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
  • Male of unknown age with a graze wound to the hand. Taken to Mercy Hospital in good condition.
  • Male of unknown age who refused EMS, believed to be a graze wound to the body.

The offender fled the scene.

A video game store employee who works nearby told the Chicago Sun-Times, "You don’t even go out because you don’t know what’s gonna happen," he said. "We usually just stick inside."[1]

There is no one in custody. Area Detectives are investigating.
