CHICAGO - A man from Chicago's far south east side was charged Wednesday for a spree of robberies on the north west side over the last two weeks in which he allegedly robbed at least four victims using a machete as his weapon of choice.

Chicago Police officially charged Andre Gonzalez, 35, of the 10700 block of S. Avenue C in Chicago's East Side neighborhood in the far southern district, with four (4) felony counts of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon. In this case, the dangerous weapon was a machete.

The locations of the incidents the man is officially charged with are below:

  • June 4 - 3000 block of N. Haussen - 31-year-old female victim
  • June 5 - 3700 block of N. Troy - 52-year-old male victim

In a press conference, Police Superintendent David Brown said the crime spree began May 27, and Brown indicated that he expects more charges to be forthcoming as more victims are interviewed.

Superintendent Brown added that Gonzalez used his girlfriend's car to travel to the north west side to commit the crimes.
