Police charged Tarrion Johnson, 19, of the 4200 block of W. Cullerton in the Lawndale neighborhood, of shooting a U.S. Marshal and a U.S. Marshal K-9 unit attempting to serve a warrant Thursday on the city's northwest side.

The officer was conducting a traffic stop at 11 a.m. when an unrelated vehicle pulled up next to the vehicle the officer had pulled over, the Naperville Police Department said. A man exited the second vehicle and charged the officer with a hatchet in his hand, it said.

Police said 23-year-old Jaylun Sanders was apprehended minutes after they say he opened fire into a crowd of people outside the McDonald's restaurant at the intersection of E. Chicago Avenue and N. State Street on the city's Near North Side.
