Another rolling gun battle near Damen and Irving Park overnight leads to fatal traffic crash, killing uninvolved female

The unidentified occupants of a Toyota Camry and another black sedan were traveling westbound on Irving Park Rd and began shooting at each other around the intersection of Damen Ave.

Another rolling gun battle near Damen and Irving Park overnight leads to fatal traffic crash, killing uninvolved female

*Update: The shooting began around Damen Ave. and Irving Park Rd. but the fatal crash occurred near the intersection of Western Ave. and Irving Park Rd.

CHICAGO - Police are reporting that at approximately 3:03 AM, in the 2400 block of W Irving Park Rd., two vehicles began shooting at each other. One of those vehicles struck an uninvolved third vehicle, killing the 37-year-old female passenger.



Area 3 detectives are investigating and details remain slim, but police say the unidentified occupants of a Toyota Camry and another black sedan were traveling westbound on Irving Park Rd and began shooting at each other around the intersection of Damen Ave.

The Toyota Camry then struck an uninvolved vehicle, a Nissan Rogue, causing a 37-year-old female passenger of the Nissan to be ejected from the vehicle. She was transported by the CFD to Illinois Masonic where she was pronounced deceased.

The 27-year-old male driver of the Nissan was transported by the CFD to Illinois Masonic for observation but did not suffer any serious injuries.

After the crash, the unknown number of occupants inside the Toyota fled the scene on foot and have not been located. The black sedan continued driving and left the scene.

No one is in custody with Area Three detectives and Major Accidents investigating.

The crashes occurred late in the morning and involved 40 to 60 passenger cars and multiple tractor-trailers, two of which caught fire, Illinois State Police Maj. Ryan Starrick said.
