8-year-old wounded by gunfire in Brighton Park

The relationship between the two victims is unknown currently, but they were in a vehicle together. The child is in stable condition with a single gunshot wound to his buttock.

8-year-old wounded by gunfire in Brighton Park

CHICAGO - Authorities are reporting an 8-year-old was shot this morning in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the city's southwest side.



The incident happened around 7:45 a.m. this morning in the 2600 block of W. 39th Place in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the city's southwest side.

Police said an 8-year-old male and a 19-year-old male were traveling westbound on W. 39th Place when an unknown offender driving a dark-colored SUV pulled alongside the vehicle they were driving in. The offender displayed a firearm and began firing shots in the victims’ direction.

The 8-year-old male victim sustained a gunshot wound to his left buttock and was transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.

The 19-year-old male victim was not injured.

No one is in custody. Area One Detectives are investigating.

The crashes occurred late in the morning and involved 40 to 60 passenger cars and multiple tractor-trailers, two of which caught fire, Illinois State Police Maj. Ryan Starrick said.
