A 62-year-old man was in his vehicle and stopped at a stop sign near the W. 71st Street intersection with S. Green Street when shots were fired by an unknown offender.

62-year-old man shot and killed in Englewood

CHICAGO - A 62-year-old man was shot and killed in Englewood last night while driving his car, authorities said.

The incident happened shortly after 11:00 p.m. last night in the 800 block of W. 71st Street in the Englewood neighborhood on the city's south side.

Police said a 62-year-old man was was in his vehicle and stopped at a stop sign on the above block at the W. 71st Street intersection with S. Green Street when shots were fired by an unknown offender.

The Chicago Fire Department took the 62-year-old victim to University of Chicago Hospital where he was originally listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. He died from his injury a short time later.

There is no one in custody and Area One detectives are investigating.
