2 dead in Avondale shooting

Authorities said the incident occurred around 12:05 am in the 2700 block of W Belmont in the Avondale neighborhood. Reports indicated the shots happened in the northeast corner of Belmont and California.

2 dead in Avondale shooting

CHICAGO - Shortly after midnight, police responded to a person shot in the Avondale neighborhood and found a 28-year-old male on the ground with multiple gun shot wounds to his body.

A short time later a second victim was discovered, a 26-year-old male who was shot in the same area, also died.



Authorities said the incident occurred around 12:05 a.m. in the 2700 block of W Belmont in the Avondale neighborhood. Reports indicated the shots happened in the northeast corner of Belmont and California near the large tri-intersection of Belmont/California/Elston Avenues.

Witnessed reported that a man wearing a green hoodie was shooting at the victims.

The 28-year-old victim was transported to Illinois Masonic where he was pronounced dead.

Shortly after, a second male victim, 26 years of age, was discovered in the area with a gun shot wound to his torso. Initial reports indicated he may have self-transported to the hospital but police said he was also transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There is no one in custody and Area Five detectives are investigating.

`Multiple fatalities' on Illinois highway following crashes

The crashes occurred late in the morning and involved 40 to 60 passenger cars and multiple tractor-trailers, two of which caught fire, Illinois State Police Maj. Ryan Starrick said.
