2 dead, 4 injured in car accident in Avalon Park

Around 11:38 p.m., a brown Nissan SUV was traveling westbound attempting to cross S Stony Island Ave at 82nd Street. A gray Dodge Charger was traveling northbound and struck the driver's side of the Nissan, causing the fatalities and major injuries.

CHICAGO - Two people were killed and an additional four others were injured in a car crash close to midnight Saturday in the Avalon Park neighborhood.



Area Two detectives said around 11:38 p.m., a brown Nissan SUV was traveling westbound attempting to cross S Stony Island Ave at 82nd Street. A gray Dodge Charger was traveling northbound and struck the driver's side of the Nissan.

The driver of the gray Dodge Charger is a 28-year-old man who was alone in the vehicle. He was taken to University of Chicago hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Nissan SUV is a 49-year-old female who was also transported to the hospital in serious condition with trauma to the body.

A 76-year-old male passenger of the Nissan was also transported to University of Chicago hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An unidentified female in her 30s who was also a passenger of the Nissan was also transported to the University of Chicago hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An additional two injuries occurred but authorities did not clarify if the additional injured were passengers in the Nissan or bystanders. A 68-year-old female sustained minor injuries and was transported to Christ Hospital in fair condition. An unidentified male juvenile in his late teens was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in fair condition with minor injuries.

Area Two detectives are investigating and, so far, there are no citations pending.

While this particular intersection is not on our list, Stony Island Ave is one of the most dangerous streets for driving in the city of Chicago. In fact, intersections along this avenue hold the two top spots on our list of the most dangerous intersections in Chicago.[1]
