A 18-year-old was shot multiple times in the early hours of Monday morning as he said he was fighting off an attempted robbery by two men, authorities said.

CHICAGO - A 18-year-old was shot multiple times in the early hours of Monday morning as he said he was fighting off an attempted robbery by two men, authorities said.

According to police, the incident happened around 2:34 a.m. early Monday morning on the 1800 block of W. 43rd Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the city's southwest side.

An 18-year-old man said he was walking on the above block when he was approached by a Hispanic man who attempted to rob him. An altercation ensued as the 18-year-old fought back during the attempted robbery and, during the altercation, another Hispanic male emerged from an alley and began shooting at the victim.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in serious condition.

No one is in custody at this time. Area One Detectives are investigating.
