CHICAGO - Authorities are reporting a teenager was shot in the Hyde Park neighborhood this afternoon, about a block away from the University of Chicago campus, by a currently unknown offender.

The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. in the 5600 block of S. Woodlawn in the Hyde Park neighborhood, about one block east of the University of Chicago campus. That particular section of S. Woodlawn Avenue is a very, very expensive block with average home prices ranging from $1.5-$3.5 million.

The 17-year-old victim told police he was walking down the sidewalk when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and an unknown offender inside the car pulled a handgun and fired shots at the teenager.

The victim reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to his left forearm and was treated at the University of Chicago Hospital. He was listed in good condition this evening.

Area One Detectives are investigating. There is no one in custody.
