The incident happened around 8:35 p.m. Friday night on the 900 block of S. Albany in the Garfield Park neighbrorhood on the city's west side

Police said that a 12-year-old boy was with a group and walking on the sidewalk when someone in a gray sedan began to fire shots in the direction of the group.

The Chicago Fire Department's first responders rushed the 12-year-old victim to Stroger Hospital where he was initially listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest, but the boy is reportedly now in serious condition.
