11-year-old charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking

CHICAGO - Chicago Police announced charges today against a boy saying that he was one of the people who carjacked two women in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood on the city's south side.

Police said they arrested the 11-year-old boy yesterday in the 6700 block of S. Honore in West Englewood.

He was identified as one of the offenders who took a vehicle at gunpoint from two women, age 36 and 57, back in mid-November in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood. At the time, Police issued a warning to residents of the Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park neighborhoods to be on alert for a group of armed teens wanted for carjackings.

Police added that during their investigation, the boy had been spotted in at least one other vehicle that had been reported stolen.

His official charges are as follows:

  • One (1) felony count - Vehicular Hijacking - Aggravated - Weapon
  • One (1) misdemeanor count - Criminal Trespass to Vehicle by Physical Control

The boy will appear in court today.
