Whitley Temple, 34, of the West Garfield Park neighborhood faces several felony counts, including aggravated battery of a peace officer and attempted murder. She was due for an initial court appearance Wednesday.

The Padres trailed 5-0 when Kyle Hendricks was pulled after allowing a double to Jake Cronenworth to start the sixth inning. Voit homered off reliever Chris Martin to spark a four-run sixth, and his double off Mychal Givens gave the Padres the lead for good at 7-5 and highlighted a six-run seventh.

Cease improves to 10-0 against Tigers in 5-1 White Sox win
Cease (5-3) gave up seven hits and a walk. He struck out eight while improving to 10-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 11 career starts against the Tigers. He's the first pitcher to win his first 10 decisions against an opponent since Jamie Moyer started 10-0 against the Marlins in 2006-08.

Dad faces 3 murder charges in kids' drowning deaths
The bodies of Bryant Karels, 5, Cassidy Karels, 3, and Gideon Karels, 2, were found by their mother in a north suburban Round Lake Beach residence. Their father, Jason E. Karels, 35, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
