Court orders Jussie Smollett released from jail during appeal
Appellate Court Justices Thomas Hoffman and Joy Cunningham signed the order granting Smollett's request to be released, which noted he was convicted of non-violent offenses. Justice Maureen Connors dissented.

No charges against 2 Chicago officers in fatal shootings
Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx said there was insufficient evidence to charge the officers in the deaths, which were captured on video that showed both suspects appeared to have handguns prior to the shootings.

Police have charged a 21-year-old Chicago man with murder, two counts of attempted murder, plus 6 additional felonies saying he's responsible for the home invasion Sunday morning that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old girl and left a 19-year-old male hospitalized.

Suburban Chicago police fatally shoot man who stabbed cop
Three Crest Hill officers responded to the scene and, when they confronted the man he stabbed one of them in the femoral artery. An officer then shot the man several times and he died on the scene.

Chris Collins to stay at Northwestern for next season
Collins is 133-150 overall and 56-113 in the Big Tenin nine seasons at Northwestern. He led the Wildcats to their only NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017. Since then, they have five straight losing seasons.
