CHICAGO - A man was shot multiple times and killed while out walking his dog in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in the early Monday morning hours, authorities said.

The incident happened around 1:45 a.m. in the 5300 block of S. Seeley in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, which is part of the New City community area on the city's south side.

Police said a 24-year-old man was out walking his dog in the back alley when an unknown amount of offenders opened fire. The victim was shot multiple times to the head, the body, and the legs. He was pronounced dead on scene.

According to scanner traffic, police discovered approximately 20 rifle and pistol casings nearby.

There is no word on the condition of the man's dog.

No one is in custody, Area One detectives are investigating.
