CHICAGO - An argument between two brothers escalated to murder Saturday afternoon after one killed the other in the North Park neighborhood, authorities said.

The incident happened just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon on the 5600 block of N. St Louis Avenue in the North Park neighborhood on the city's north side.

Police said an 18-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the chest after he was in a "domestic verbal altercation" when the known offender produced a handgun and fired shots, striking the victim. The victim was rushed to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was initially reported in critical condition, but he died a short time later from his injuries.

According to local scanner traffic captured by more than a few of our favorite local listeners, the 18-year-old was arguing with his brother and his brother shot him. It was a third brother who allegedly relayed that information to police on the scene.

The offender fled the scene. Police do not have him in custody but know who they're looking for, yet he has not been identified.

Area Five detectives continue to investigate.
