Wallet cut from pocket

A 55-year-old Chicago man reported that he was grabbed from behind by a group of four-to-six males at 3:30 p.m. Monday May 14 in the 200 block of North Columbus Drive and had his pants pocket slit by a cutting instrument. The men took his money after it fell to the sidewalk from his pocket and then fled in an unknown direction The victim said he was leaving a nearby CVS Pharmacy when he was taken by surprise by the men who he described as both black and white, in their 20s, with some wearing hoodies.

Purse snatched

A 56-year-woman from Kenosha, Wisconsin reported that her purse was snatched at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, after she draped it across a chair at a restaurant at 1 N. Michigan Avenue. The woman told police a man wearing a blue shirt and tan pants removed her purse from the chair, placed it in a tan shoulder bag and fled.

Rescues of the Week

Monique is a petite, 8-month-old Shepherd mix. This adorable puppy arrived at PAWS Chicago in February after she was transferred from a crowded shelter in Oklahoma. Monique needed surgery on one of her knees, and with the help of PAWS vets and a loving foster family, her recovery is going extremely well! While working on puppy basics like house-training and leash manners, Monique also does daily exercises with her fosters to strengthen her legs and build muscle.

Protesters, cops clash, but little fallout for others

It’s over. NATO is gone, and the South Loop survived largely unscathed, despite serving as the home turf for world leaders at the summit, on the one hand, and masses of protesters who followed. In the end, all the precautions, extra security guards and boarded-up businesses seemed wholly unnecessary, as little, if any, property damage occurred in the South Loop.

NATO protester arrests

While the Chicago Police department reported 90 arrests resulting from the protests surrounding the NATO Summit meeting last weekend, relatively few were handled at the First District Police headquarters at 18th and State streets. Chicago Police department spokesman Mike Sullivan said eight police officers were injured working during the NATO protests last weekend. He said he didn’t know how many protesters were injured.

New Morgan 'L' Station opens

Trains finally stopping at finished station on Green and Pink lines

The heart of the West Loop finally has an ‘L’ station. After more than a year and a half of construction and infrastructure work, the new Morgan Street station on the Green and Pink lines finally opened to little fanfare last Friday morning, May 18.
