It was a bad week for riders on CTA trains downtown. A 33-year-old Chicago man riding the Red Line with three women was kicked and punched by four offenders after he stuck up for the honor of the women at 9:05 p.m. Sunday, June 24.

Police said the offenders were making offensive and inappropriate sexual comments to the women before the man said “that’s enough” and engaged in a verbal altercation with the offenders.

When they exited the train, one offender pushed the man to the ground and kicked him while a second man struck him in the face with his fist before the third and fourth offenders joined in kicking and punching him. The men then fled down the tunnel leading to the Blue Line. The victim was treated on the scene by a Fire Department ambulance.

Earlier in the weekend, a 39-year-old Chicago woman and her 52-year-old husband were attacked on a CTA train near the State/Lake stop at 5:15 a.m. Friday, June 22, after the wife asked some men on the train to talk more softly. Police said the woman asked the men to keep the noise down and then engaged in a verbal altercation with the men before one of the men started pulling her hair. When the husband intervened, a second and third offender punched him and threw him off the train. Both victims refused medical attention.

A 31-year-old Chicago man was charged with unlawful representation as a police officer at 12:55 p.m. Friday, June 22, after he tried to enter the Daley Center at 50 W. Washington Street while carrying a replica police detective’s badge in his bag. The badge was detected when the man tried to pass through the security x-ray machine at the courts building. The badge had the words “Chicago Police Detective” written on it. The man told police he had been given the badge by his uncle four years ago and was using it as a wallet.

Police apprehended two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old after one of them allegedly grabbed an iPhone from a woman walking northbound on State Street to the Roosevelt Street ‘L’ station at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, June 20.

Police said the 25-year-old Chicago woman was walking northbound when she observed the three boys walking toward her, forcing the woman to walk between them. She told police she was checking her iPhone for train arrival times when the 15-year-old grabbed her phone and all three boys then fled southbound on State Street and then east on 13th Street.

At that time, police said, the 15-year-old dropped the phone and when he went back to pick up the phone he noticed the victim chasing them and continued to flee. Police called to the scene apprehended all three offenders. Police said a warrant had been issued by the 15-year-old’s probation officer on a robbery charge that very morning.

A woman involved in a traffic accident on the 1700 block of South State State at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 23, was charged with battery after she threw her cell phone at a police officer. Police said a Logan Square woman became enraged at the scene of the accident, started screaming and threw her phone, hitting the officer in the chest before attempting to flee.

Three break-ins were reported at offices at 407 S. Dearborn St. between the hours of 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23. Police said someone broke the glass in the front door of the Plum Tree Group and three laptops were taken, along with office gifts, a digital camera, and two camera lens worth a total of $7,000. At the same time, the glass in the front door at the Law Office of Kevin M. O’Brien and $30 was taken from a desk in the law office. Also, someone broke into the front door of Taxpayers United of America and a digital video camera was taken.
