South Looper Steve Reginald got a kick out of me calling him a "film factotum" when he stopped doing his wonderful movie nights for Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance almost two years ago. But what else can you call a guy who can rattle off everything about an old film from the plot--to the fact that the star was three months pregnant with her fifth child. Nothing but a film factotum.
I have been missing my film factotum. He's been doing other things
--he did a stint on his Prairie District park advisory council; he still docents (with me) at Glessner and Clarke houses. He volunteers for Greater South Loop Association. And he loves to promote local businesses and local people in his blog, "South Loop Connection
." He even lectures once a year as a guest for my First Year Seminar class at Columbia College. His topic? The many films made from the novel, "Frankenstein."
The good news is that he's returning to his one true thing on Thursday. And every second Thursday of the month till the end of the year. He's created a Chicago-themed film club/series--beginning with "Call Northside 777"--at Daystar Center; and all the details are here
. The other films coming up will be "North by Northwest," "His Girl Friday" and "Some Like it Hot."You'd be (A Ship of) Fools not to join up. It's cheap--and I guarantee you will be filled with movie facts. Try him. You'll like him. And the facts.
