The holy grail for an ornithologist is
the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. For a sea shell collector, it’s a Junonia.
Followers of fleeting fashion trends are currently enamored of “nerd
swag.” And you can bet it will be on display at Taste of Randolph.
Alternatively known as “geek swag,”
this bizarre mode of dress is identified by a bow tie, bright pastel shirt,
high-top sneakers, checked slacks, multicolored socks, and a 70s-era LED
calculator watch.
Then, it starts to get weird.
Nerd swag eyewear is basically non-functional
eyewear. That means geeky glasses with no lenses. It’s an ironic statement. The
ensemble is intended to make the case that “I may dress like a nerd, but I pull
it off so well, I look awesome!”
Nerd swag has inexplicably been
popularized by NBA players. The West Loop, as we know, is a hotbed of hip. So,
if you’re into people-watching, I recommend West Randolph this weekend.
I think there will be bands
and food, too.
