Major seal of approval for local vets

Our three cats are not shy about voicing their displeasure on real or perceived indignities. Like going to the doctor for a check-up. Natalie and Sherman both had red stickers that read BVC (be very careful) on their personnel files at their former veterinary practice in Michigan.
Miraculously, their recent visits have been free of drama and hissing, even from our troublemaker-in-chief, Hobbes.
The atmosphere of the office and examining area definitely have something to do with it. We take them to West Loop Veterinary Care at 815 W. Randolph, which takes pains to minimize pet stress during exams. They use environmentally-friendly techniques, and they recently received accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association. That sounded like a big deal, but I wasn’t sure exactly why.
“Only 15 percent of small animal hospitals in the U.S. have accreditation,” said David Gonsky, DVM, founder and chief veterinarian of West Loop Veterinary. “There are 900 different categories you’re evaluated on in the accreditation process.”
AAHA accreditation requires the clinic to meet a specific set of standards. Gonsky said it’s validation that the practice is doing things correctly and taking good care of the pampered pooches and cats in the West Loop.
“We knew we offered good service, but the accreditation was a process where we could take quality to the next level,” he said.
