And about that G8
nothing is new so relax and forget about it

In case anyone was wondering why I failed to mention any information emanating from Wednesday's community meeting about safety and security in Dearborn Park regarding the Nato/G8 meetings come May, there was a good reason. There was really nothing to report. The working police at the meeting said they knew absolutely nothing, nothing about the security plans for residents--or anything else--come May 19-21. Because security is being handled strictly by the Secret Service. However, not one single copper will be on vacation that weekend. No vacations allowed for the CPD during that time.
The private security people--off duty cops who moonlight in a private security vehicle in the neighborhood--who were also on hand at the meeting discussing personal domestic security in the home to ward off scammers, did share a couple of tidbits. One--that everyone would be a little inconvenienced during that weekend, due to moving visiting dignitaries from one place to another. "Just figure out what happens to the streets when our own president visits Chicago, and multiply it by 50 times," said one. "There will be a whole lot of presidents here."
And two, there will be no parades on major thoroughfares during the summit, we were told. No major streets like State Street will be closed down. "The parades will be on side streets. So as not to disrupt too much traffic," said one off-duty cop in the know.
