Why I'm supporting Target

I recently attended Ald. Fioretti’s town hall meeting, which was followed by Target’s presentation of its proposed store on Jackson and Aberdeen. I was one of the people who had been in discussions with an attorney for Target who contacted me at the request of Ald. Fioretti’s office. I am on the board of Near West Neighbors.

Seeing red at Buckingham Fountain

Can someone tell me why Buckingham Fountain’s nighttime lighting this season is so strikingly mundane and unimpressive? Since I first became a South Michigan Ave. high-rise resident and an avid admirer of its Grant Park and lakefront dazzling views two years ago, the fountain’s dramatic multicolored, ever-changing, light shows have been a constant source of delight to me and have drawn certain “oohs and aahs” from my evening guests — until now.

On April 21, local school council elections will take place at our city’s elementary schools and on April 22 at our high schools. LSC elections typically have an extremely low turnout. LSCs, however, spend taxpayer dollars and how wisely they spend those dollars will have a direct impact on every resident’s pocketbook.
