I agree with Bonnie McGrath (Gambling against the South Loop, June 30) that gambling is an all-around bad idea/deal. Specifically, as it preys on the more economically challenged population, will only add low paying jobs with little advancement, promote crime, dramatically increase traffic congestion and be profitable for only a select few while being a breeding ground for corruption.

Crime in Pilsen has decreased

Over the past few weeks, the City of Chicago saw nearly 20 different shootings in several neighborhoods from the North Side to the South Side. Interestingly, only one of these shootings occurred in Pilsen, often considered a high crime neighborhood riddled with gang activity. Statistics show that over the past 15 years, violent crime in Pilsen has seen a 25 percent reduction. This reduction in crime is a huge leap and a great improvement for our community.

The recent naming of the new Chicago Public Schools CEO will likely amplify these complaints. Many claim that there has been a lack of leadership on education here in Chicago.
