Get rid of buses in South Loop
Letter to the editor

Time to rethink the use of the two-lane South Canal, by Dominick’s as a virtual parking lot for school buses.
Once upon a time not so long ago, parking school buses on this street was no big deal, there wasn’t much traffic.
Today, thanks to the more numerous shopping venues and shoppers, South Canal as a one-lane road gets backed up for blocks, causing dangerous incidents to arise. Time to move the buses to a less trafficked road

The strip on the east (northbound) side of Canal St., just south of Roosevelt seems to be a parking area for all of sorts of buses. My guess is that's the only place to park for buses making day trips into the city. I assume the buses discharge their passangers at locations in the Loop, spend the day along S. Canal St., and get their passangers back when their visit is done. Can anybody confirm this or comment further? Perhaps the city can find a better nearby vacant lot for them.
