I continue to pick up your Chicago Journal at Cafe Society on 18th, and each issue reconfirms that you’re doing an outstanding job for this reader.

In the 4/16 issue: I wouldn’t have known about the Viceroy were it not for you. I’ve watched that building for decades, and I know Union Park from Dreiser’s Sister Carrie. I’m hopeful that this new development plan works, but that neighborhood is troubled. However, I can remember, in 1981, when I came to Glessner House weekly for docent training, that the janitor stood on the sidewalk all day watching our cars to prevent smash-and-grab. Today, if I can find a parking place, it’s dog poop that I have to look out for. What a change. And that’s within just part of my lifetime!

And there you are in “Viewpoints.” It’s fascinating to think about how your being a meeting, and known to be there, changes the meeting. And then there’s time. When you rethink your experience of being there after the fact, how do you and the memories change?

I admire your efforts a lot, and I hope the economy supports the papers that are left.

GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS NARROWING... Unfortunately, as a Celiac for 3 years now I'm finding more and more restaurants in both the city and the suburbs moving away from providing a GF (gluten free) menu! The reason I've been given is because they don't want the liability should a customer become sick due to cross contamination. It makes eating out a challenge when the only thing offered is plain, broiled salmon time and time again!
