Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy's plan to shutter police stations around the city is making a lot of people angry. Folks in this town are attached to their cops. They see them as a direct factor in their personal safety.

The new Mariano's grocery store slated for 16th and Clark streets is a good thing. While the South Loop has a wealth of grocery stores along Roosevelt, including the brand-new Trader Joe's, adding another one to the neighborhood still can't hurt.

We've been thinking about bike sharing for a while. When new Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Gabe Klein rode into town at the beginning of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration, that was practically all anyone talked about.

It's too bad about the Grant Park farmers market. The idea had a lot of promise and it was a neat location, but in the end, it just couldn't get done this year.

We had a chance to stop by the Ping Tom Park expansion on Monday, the same day Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced his initiative to build four brand new boathouses along the river across the city - including one right here in Chinatown.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan's crackdown on the H. Kramer copper smelting company is a welcome contribution to the assault on Pilsen's polluters. After years of activists trying in vain to get something done in the community, politicians finally seem to think it's a good idea to take care of this issue.

We went to the dedication ceremony for Mary Bartelme Park’s historic marker on Tuesday night, and it was a fine ceremony all around. Plenty of important and illustrious people were on hand to celebrate a year of the park’s existence and commemorate the woman it was named after.
