New Grant Park plan a great improvement

Daley Bicentennial Plaza is a dinosaur.
Let’s face it. When Millennium Park was built, it was essentially a bigger, far better version of the elegant recreational plaza that Daley Bi once was.
There’s way too much concrete in the current space, and there’s absolutely no reason to have a traditional ice rink on the east side of Columbus Drive when Millennium Park’s is much nicer.
The new plan from Michael Van Valkenburgh is a breath of fresh air. It provides a new vision for the park that’ll complement Millennium Park better while simultaneously creating a distinct experience.
The loss of tennis courts at the park is unfortunate, but they’re a much better fit for the smaller, more community-focused park at Lakeshore East.
This is Chicago’s front yard, and it’s an appropriately elegant vision for it.
